President, Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Western Washington 2002-2009
As president of non-profit, managed, trained and retained board members, volunteers, donors and sponsors in successful effort to re-brand and re-create organization’s image. At the same time, increased funds from $1,000 to $250,000 in six years. Carefully directed financial strategies and supervised management of the budget.
- Developed Teams– Turned the organization around in three years and successfully increased number of board members from two to 10. Trained all volunteers with special emphasis on the sensitivities of the population that we serve.
- Communications - Breathed new life into the newsletter that is mailed to 3000 donors, families, healthcare providers and sponsors. Added the quarterly newsletter to refreshed web site. Handled all direct mail, telephone contact and email on behalf of the organization.
- Conflict Resolution/Negotiated with Others - Handled complaints, settled disputes, and resolved grievances and conflicts. Worked for three years to resolve legal issues that arose from copycat charity. Worked with the Prosecutor’s office to advocate for several mothers of ill children who were embroiled in domestic violence issues.
- Raised Funds/Event Planning – Planned and executed several fund raisers each year. Increased donations and event proceeds from $1000 to $250,000 in six years.

- Managed Programs – Revamped programs and family events. Doubled the number of families served with our Holiday Adopt a Family program in three years. Added and adjusted existing programs to fit needs of the families such as; establishing a clothing bank and arranging for free housing for special needs families.
WA State Team Leader CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation 2004-2009
- Advocate for Washington State -- Represented state’schildren with cancer and their families by flying to Washington DC twice a year to meet with federal lawmakers. Maintained contact via email and telephone throughout the year.
- Successfully achieved unanimous support from both the House and the Senate with passage of the Caroline Pryce Walker Childhood Cancer Awareness Act of 2008. President Bush signed the bill July 2008.
Volunteer West Seattle Hi-Yu 2006-2009 – Worked for organization that promotes the West Seattle community throughout the Pacific NW and that hosts summer events and parades.
- Candidate Coordinator – Implemented new strategies to increase number of candidates for the scholarship program. Mentored and managed candidates involved with scholarship program 2009.

Recipient of numerous broadcast awards for documentaries and news. Town Meeting was highest-rated locally-produced program on the West Coast and aired for 22 years. Through my investigative work, I helped to get an innocent woman released from prison.
WRAL-TV, Raleigh, NC (1/88-6/99) Producer/Writer of documentary unit, news, and programming. Produced award-winning documentary that was the cornerstone of a statewide “Save Our Sounds” campaign. Compelled the state lawmakers to pass 11 laws to protect the waters of North Carolina.
